Varied Economic Recovery in the Great Lakes Region

The third edition of the quarterly Great Lakes Monitor examines the 21 largest metros in the region—one of the hardest hit during the Great Recession—and finds a highly varied recovery. Fellow Jennifer Vey discusses why areas in upstate New York, and the college towns of Madison, Wisconsin and Columbus, Ohio, fared well while Detroit and Youngstown, Ohio remain substantially below their pre-recession peaks.
