Exploring the disconnect: Digital credentials and employer demand
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Brookings Institution announced today that Suzanne Maloney has been appointed Vice President and Director for Foreign Policy. Dr. Maloney most recently served as interim Vice President and Director for Foreign Policy. Prior to her interim appointment, Suzanne served as deputy director for Foreign Policy for five years. Dr. Maloney has been a senior fellow at Brookings since 2007, leading research on Iran and Persian Gulf energy.
“In addition to being an outstanding scholar, Suzanne is a wonderful colleague who cares deeply about the Foreign Policy program,” said Brookings Institution President John R. Allen. “She has done an outstanding job in her interim VP role, and I know she will continue to be an exceptional leader for Brookings. I am very pleased to promote her to this new position.”
Outside of Brookings, she has advised both Democratic and Republican administrations, including as an external advisor to senior State Department officials during the Obama administration and as a member of Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice’s Policy Planning Staff. She previously served as Middle East advisor for ExxonMobil Corporation and director of the 2004 Council on Foreign Relations Task Force on U.S. policy toward Iran, chaired by former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates. She has published three books and numerous articles in outlets such as Foreign Affairs, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Maloney holds a doctorate from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Dr. Maloney will begin her new role at Brookings effective immediately.
