Krishnamurthy Subramanian

Senior Visiting Fellow

Krishnamurthy Subramanian was a Senior Visiting Fellow at Brookings India and the current Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. He is also Associate Professor of Finance and Executive Director for the Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India.

A leading expert in banking, corporate governance and economic policy, he has served on expert committees on Corporate Governance for the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and on Governance of Banks for The Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

He is also a member of SEBI’s Standing Committee on Alternative Investment Policy headed by industrialist and co-founder of Infosys Ltd, Narayana Murthy. As part of his corporate policy work, he serves on the boards of Bandhan Bank, the first bank to be licensed after independence in eastern India. He also serves on the board of the National Institute of Bank Management, which is chaired by the RBI Governor, as well as the RBI Academy.

Subramanian’s research in banking, law and finance, innovation and economic growth, and corporate governance has been published in the world’s leading journals, including The Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Law and Economics.

He obtained his MBA and Ph.D. in finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur.
