As flexible work arrangements become more ingrained in our work culture and talented workers are highly sought after, work-life balance and the enjoyment of work are increasingly important. Highly skilled workers in particular value the ability to work remotely and maintain a work-life balance that suits the needs of their professional and personal lives. They also value the message of trust and accountability that comes with that flexibility. Therefore, offering innovative approaches to workplace flexibility and facilitating “employee joy” are essential for companies that want to succeed and attract the best talent in the world to their organizations.

On October 7, the Brookings Center on Regulation and Markets held a fireside chat with Debbie Lovich, managing director and senior partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Future of Work fellow for BCG’s Henderson Institute, on how to “make work work.” The event focused on how the future of work will be characterized by what she is calling, “radical employee centricity” and what that means for the organization of the future. She shared what it looks like to maximize overall organizational performance by treating employees with the same mindset as you treat customers and the same importance as you treat shareholders.

This event was a part of the Center on Regulation and Markets’ series on “Reimagining Modern-day Markets and Regulations.”
