Forward-thinking investors are constantly looking for the next set of BRICs. Which countries are on the brink of expansive growth? Where do potential rewards balance properly understood risks? In May, Oxford University Press will release “Cracking the Emerging Markets Enigma,” in which author Andrew Karolyi outlines strategies for analyzing investment opportunities in such markets. Karolyi uses a numerical scoring system to assess dimensions that include institutional fragility, corporate opacity, treatment of foreign investment, and more in evaluating the opportunities and risks that face prospective investors.
On May 15, the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings hosted a discussion on these issues with Mr. Karolyi. After a short presentation of the book’s key findings, a panel conversation was moderated by Brookings Senior Fellow Eswar Prasad.
