Six years after the most severe economic recession since the Great Depression, many middle class Americans are still feeling squeezed, despite an economic recovery that has generated more than 11 million jobs in 58 consecutive months of private sector growth.

On February 3, the Center for Effective Public Management at Brookings hosted Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to share her perspective on critical decisions made by President Obama and congressional Democrats to rebuild the economy, and assert the vital need for a dedicated focus on the financial security of America’s working families.

In her remarks, Leader Pelosi highlighted three key connections at the heart of our economy: the connection between a budget for the future with effective public investments and a dynamic, thriving economy that generates growth and opportunity for all Americans; the connection between the success of the private sector and bold public commitments to infrastructure, education, science and health care; and, the connection between bigger paychecks for families, robust job creation and shrinking deficits.
