Flagship reforms for a more effective African Union: A conversation with Rwandan President Paul Kagame
Past Event
Though the African Union (AU) is mandated to enhance cooperation among member states, support the strength of institutions across the continent, and spur development, it has yet to fully deliver on its mission.
Earlier this year, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda published a formal review that proposes recommendations for a more effective AU. Now that reforms are on the table, the daunting challenge of implementation lies ahead.
On September 21, the Africa Growth Initiative at Brookings hosted a conversation with President Kagame, where he presented his vision for how a reformed AU can best contribute to prosperity across the continent. An audience question and answer segment followed.
