Nearly four months into the second Trump administration, we have seen a flurry of executive orders and drastic restructuring of government agencies. How have the legislative and judicial branches responded to these early actions of the Trump administration?
On May 21, the Katzmann Initiative at Brookings held an online discussion on the critical role that U.S. political institutions play in providing checks and balances to the executive branch. Panelists examined how Congress has facilitated the president’s agenda, the response of the judicial branch to the numerous lawsuits related to the administration’s actions, and the Cabinet confirmation process.
