Foresight Africa: Top priorities for Africa in 2018

Past Event

In a world where China and other emerging economies are ascendant, where cooperation on global governance is under challenge, and where free trade faces headwinds, Africa needs its own institutions and leaders to play a more assertive role in advancing the continent’s agenda. The potential for a more unified Africa to create never-before-seen opportunities for trade and economic prosperity is gaining traction. Though the threat of terrorism and political instability still hangs over regional hotspots, neighboring African countries are leading peace negotiations and contributing to solutions. Policymakers in the region are striving to tackle human development challenges with increasing success while African businesses and entrepreneurs are innovating and creating jobs.

The Africa Growth Initiative (AGI) at Brookings explores these trends and features diverse expert viewpoints in Foresight Africa, its annual flagship report.

On January 17, AGI hosted a Foresight Africa event featuring a panel of leading Africa experts where panelists offered insights on important regional trends along with recommendations for national governments, regional organizations, multilateral institutions, and civil society actors as they forge ahead in 2018.

After the program, the panelists took audience questions. This event was webcast live.
