Exploring key challenges in Nigeria’s public procurement processes and areas for reform
Public procurement, the vehicle through which governments purchase goods and services, is an essential part of good governance and efficient service delivery. In Nigeria, a country where procurement spending is estimated to account for 10-25% of GDP, reforms to the public procurement system will be crucial to improving government efficiency and addressing leakages in the public budget caused by corruption.
This Africa Growth Initiative workstream, in partnership with Stellenbosch University and the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa, explores and suggests multiple prospective improvements to the existing procurement system. The analysis and policy recommendations provided in the briefs, blogs, and training materials below are intended to spur discussion on and creation of an inclusive, fair, transparent, and effective public procurement system in Nigeria.
