The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program provides undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children and who meet specific requirements the opportunity to temporarily suspend deportation and also authorization to work in the U.S. The program started one year ago tomorrow, August 15. New research by Audrey Singer and Nicole Svajlenka provides a snapshot of over 460,000 DACA applicants, including a state-by-state breakdown shown below.

Singer, a senior fellow in the Metropolitan Policy Program, and Svajlenka analyzed over 460,000 DACA applications filed between the program’s inception last August 15 and March 22, 2013, and obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request to the Department of Homeland Security.
Their report comes with a set of very informative infographics that tell the story of the DACA program and who these applicants are. The state-by-state map above shows DACA applicants by state, by country of origin, and by approval rate.
