General Jehangir Karamat was a nonresident senior fellow in the Foreign Policy program. He retired as Pakistan’s chairman of the Joint Chiefs and chief of Army Staff in October 1998. He was Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States from 2004 to 2006 and was a commissioner on the International Commission on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament from 2009 to 2010.
