Climbing Up the Ethics Summit

I’m excited to be appearing later today at the first ever National Government Ethics Summit, here in DC. The U.S. Office of Government Ethics is convening “leaders from the executive branch ethics community, representatives from the legislative and judicial branches, members of the press, advocates from good government groups, noted thinkers from academia, and officials from state and local governments” for a 360° review of this portfolio of issues. I’ll be on a panel at 1:15 PM entitled “Do We Have the Right Ethics Rules to Protect the Public’s Trust” with Richard Painter, the S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law at the University of Minnesota Law School and the former Associate Counsel to the President and chief White House ethics lawyer (2005-2007).  Dave Apol, OGE’s General Counsel, will moderate the session.  It’s my first public appearance as a Brookings Governance Studies Fellow and also the first one since I joined the government almost 6 years ago in which I’m speaking only for myself, so I’m really looking forward to it.
