PRESIDENT TRUMP wants TO INCREASE THE BORDER PATROL BY 25%

New research from John Hudak, Elaine Kamarck and Christine Stenglein of the Center for Effective Public Management details not only potential costs of a U.S.-Mexico border wall, but additional costs for hiring new customs and immigration agents. “The cost of hiring 15,000 new agents” in Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they write, “would result in an estimated 14.7 percent increase in the CBP budget and an astonishing 60.8 percent increase in the ICE budget.” The chart below displays how President Trump’s increased staffing goal for the CBP border agents compares to historical levels.

61 percent of US gun deaths are suicides

A report from the Brookings Center for Regulation and Markets shows that implementing a ‘no-gun’ registry could greatly reduce firearm-related suicides.

AUTO MANUFACTURING WAS 80% OF US MANUFACTURING GROWTH in LAST FIVE QUARTERS

New research from the Metropolitan Policy Program shows that recent cuts in auto employment are affecting the manufacturing industry as a whole. This, says Senior Fellow Mark Muro, is “not good for the broader manufacturing sector, for heartland metropolitan areas, or for President Trump.”
