The goal of the Future of the Middle Class Initiative is to improve the quality of life of America’s middle class and to increase the number of people rising to join its ranks. Through independent, non-partisan analysis and policy development, we seek to advance public understanding of challenges facing the middle class and barriers to upward mobility.
Drawing on scholarship from experts across Brookings and other leading institutions, the Initiative will examine the key challenges facing the American middle class, as well as develop, promote and assess policies to improve middle class quality of life. Our work consist of an ongoing schedule of public and private events, a Middle Class Memos series, publication of scholarly research papers, as well as podcasts and videos.
Starting in November 2018, the initiative has partnered with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to combine the expertise of this nationally focused project with a local focus on the Las Vegas metropolitan region. Read more about Las Vegas and the Middle Class here.
The initiative is directed by Richard V. Reeves, Senior Fellow in Economic Studies.
