CANCELLED -- Renewing the Section 123 nuclear agreement with China: Implications for U.S.-China relations
May 19, 2015
At the end of this year, the U.S.-China Section 123 agreement on nuclear cooperation is set to expire. Nuclear energy is likely to be a major component of China's plan to meet 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets, and U.S. technology plays a critical role in efforts to build up China's nuclear fleet. On May 19, the Energy Security and Climate Initiative at Brookings will host a discussion on the benefits and broader geopolitical context of renewing the Section 123 agreement with China, as well as its implications on nuclear nonproliferation and Sino-U.S. relations.
