Upper House Elections Open the Door for Electricity Sector Reform in Japan

With the Liberal Democratic Party now controlling both Houses in the Japanese Diet, prospects of passing a proposed bill to restructure the Japanese electric power sector have improved. However, the complexity of deregulating electricity markets and unbundling operations could disappoint those who hope the bill’s reforms will lead to lower domestic electricity prices and more.
