The World According to Star Wars by Cass R. Sunstein book coverIn his new book, “The World According to ‘Star Wars,’” Cass R. Sunstein draws many surprising parallels between George Lucas’s intergalactic fantasy and today’s world. Sunstein, a Harvard law professor and former White House advisor, uses “Star Wars” as a lens to explore serious topics, including history, presidential politics, law, and economics. Themes pervasive in “Star Wars”—the Dark Side, rebellion, and redemption—can reveal valuable lessons that apply to governance decisions about constitutional law, economics, and political uprisings, argues Sunstein.

On June 21, Governance Studies at Brookings hosted Sunstein to discuss in detail what the U.S. government can learn from the world of “Star Wars,” particularly in today’s culture of partisanship and gridlock.
