VIDEO: Why Is Health Care Spending Growth Slowing Down?

Health care spending has increased as a share of the U.S. economy over the past five decades. Recently, however, health care spending growth has slowed and the Great Recession is likely not the whole story. Senior Fellow Louise Sheiner, policy director for the Hutchins Center on Fiscal & Monetary Policy, looks at possible reasons for the recent slowdown in the growth of health care spending in the United States.

However, she also says that “rapidly increasing health spending will be a particularly tough problem for the federal government as the combination of an aging population and rising health spending per person means significant budgetary pressures ahead.”
