With ridesharing services making up a crucial part of U.S. transportation infrastructure, American policymakers face important questions about how to best write rules for the industry. On Oct. 23, Sanjay Patnaik, the director of the Center on Regulation and Markets and the Bernard L. Schwartz Chair in Economic Policy Development in Economic Studies at Brookings, sat down with Loni Mahanta, the vice president of policy development and research at Lyft, to discuss the shape of the industry, the sharing economy, and data and safety issues.
