Susan Burnett is the Senior Director of Development for the Economic Studies program at Brookings. She has over twelve years of development experience at Brookings, first as senior development officer for the Metro Program where she was principally responsible for securing and stewarding funding from corporate and individual supporters.  Prior to that, Sue’s professional work was a combination of development, communications and management positions for non-profit, private sector and political entities here in Washington, DC.  Specifically, Sue was a consultant to the Annie E. Casey Foundation working with a team to better communicate the research and analysis of Casey’s wide array of programs to elected officials at the federal, state and local level.  She served as executive director of the New Democrat Network, and also worked on issue advocacy at APCO Associates (now APCO WORLDWIDE).  Her career began on Capitol Hill raising money for Senators John Kerry, Max Baucus, Chris Dodd, Harris Wofford and for the DSCC; and as deputy chief of staff for Max Baucus.  Sue earned her B.A. from Simmons College in Boston, and had the pleasure of lecturing on political fundraising at Harvard, GW and Simmons.
