Chris Brummer

Chris Brummer is nonresident senior fellow in the Governance Studies program at Brookings, and the Agnes Williams Sesquicentennial Professor of Financial Technology at Georgetown University Law Center. Throughout his career, Brummer has lent his expertise to policymakers, executives, and nonprofit leaders, at the highest levels, grappling with some of the most challenging puzzles facing innovation, financial regulation, and economic opportunity. His work has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, Marketwatch, Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Yahoo Money, Roll Call, Cointelegraph, and Coin Desk, among others.

In addition to serving as a member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Subcommittee on Virtual Currencies and the Consultative Working Group for the European Securities and Markets Authority’s Financial Innovation Standing Committee, Brummer has served as a member of the National Adjudicatory Council of FINRA and the New York Department of Financial Services Virtual Currency Advisory Board.  

Brummer is also a seasoned founder, executive and policy entrepreneur. He is the founder of Washington, D.C.’s Fintech Week, one of the world’s top fintech conferences, and the co-founder of Fintech Beat, a popular fintech podcast. He is also the chief executive officer and founder of Bluprynt, a compliance platform for blockchain-based transactions.

Brummer is a widely sought after speaker and was named the Jones Day Professor in Commercial Law at Singapore Management University in 2022 and in 2023 delivered the Chorley lecture for the Modern Law Review at the London School of Economics. He has also been selected over the years to be the keynote speaker for the Black History celebrations at the SEC, CFTC, FinCEN, FINRA, the OCC and HM Treasury.

Brummer graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis, holds a J.D. with honors from Columbia Law School and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He is the author or editor of several books, including “Cryptoassets: Legal, Regulatory and Monetary Perspectives” and “Fintech Law in a Nutshell.”

Brummer has served on the boards of many prominent companies including Fannie Mae, PayPal Digital, Public.com, and K2 Integrity.
