U.S. Policy in Iraq as Death Toll Hits 1000

As the death toll in Iraq exceeds 1000, President Bush defended his decision to go to war saying, “it was right for America then and it is right for America now.” However, the rising number of casualties, including the death of 18 servicemen this week, underscore the physical—and some say political—risk of U.S. policy in Iraq. Ivo Daalder, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and David Frum, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, discussed the situation in Iraq and its importance in the presidential campaign.
