What Health Care Innovation Means for Consumers

Thursday, November 05, 2009

The Brookings Institution

Health care innovation, done right, creates opportunities for consumers to control their own health records, rate physicians and hospitals, learn from other patients and focus on positive health outcomes. Digital information sources, for instance, offer opportunities for patient engagement to a degree not previously possible.

On November 5, the Brookings Institution hosted a policy forum to discuss the ways in which digital technology can empower patients and enhance the quality of the American health care system. Brookings Vice President Darrell West moderated a panel of experts on ways to give consumers a greater role in the medical system and what patient empowerment will mean for the quality, accessibility and affordability of health care.

After the program, the panelists took audience questions.
