On December 11, the John L. Thornton China Center of the Brookings Institution welcomed Mr. Dai Bingguo, State Councilor of the People’s Republic of China, to an event marking the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic normalization between the PRC and the United States.
Mr. Dai is one of China’s most prominent government officials overseeing the PRC’s foreign policy. He was in Washington for the sixth Strategic Dialogue between China and the United States. In a speech that provided insightful overview of U.S.-China relations over the past three decades, State Councilor Dai also called for strengthened cooperation between the two countries in a time of difficult global challenges. State Councilor Dai emphatically delivered the message that the U.S. and China should see each other as partners rather than rivals.
