A new national survey of more than 5,000 Americans captures the country’s views on new federal policies and executive actions, the state of the economy, and the health of our democracy during the first year of President Trump’s second presidential term. The survey examines Americans’ opinions on Trump’s performance as president, perceptions of immigrants and attitudes toward immigration enforcement, and views of the Republican and Democratic parties ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. At a critical time for the nation, this survey illuminates what views Americans share, where — and why — attitudes diverge, and how connected Americans feel to one another and their country.
On October 22, the Governance Studies program at Brookings and the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) will host the release of their 16th annual American Values Survey with a panel of experts who will discuss the survey results and what they reveal about the state of American politics in this unprecedented and uncertain time.
