Following the recent midterm elections and the power shift at the federal and state level, the focus will turn to how newly-elected leaders will govern in difficult fiscal environments. Unemployment continues to be at historic high levels as the nation grapples with the continuing effects of the Great Recession. States are experiencing enormous budget deficits and will be faced with making some tough decisions in the coming months. Given these challenges, states and metros have the opportunity to lead, and be creative and innovative in driving to a new economic growth model.
