On August 8, 2012, The Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform hosted a live webinar titled “Highlights from the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership’s (OMOP) Annual Symposium.”
OMOP is a public-private partnership whose mission is to evaluate methods that can be applied to analyze existing healthcare databases with the goal of better understanding the safety and effectiveness of approved medical products.
Patrick Ryan—director of epidemiology analytics at Janssen Research and Development and research investigator at OMOP—provided insights into the development of risk identification systems, methods for interpreting individual study results, and future areas of research for OMOP. Martijn Schuemie—assistant professor at Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, Netherlands and research investigator at OMOP— presented results from an empirical approach to null hypothesis testing and described ongoing OMOP research collaborations.
