The Foreign Policy of the European Union: Assessing Europe’s Role in the World, edited by Brookings Senior Nonresident Fellow Federiga Bindi, was officially launched in Europe at an event hosted by the University of Rome at Tor Vergata on April 22, 2010.
Event participants included Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Lamberto Dini, and United States Ambassador to Rome David Thorne. The afternoon’s discussion focused on the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on European diplomacy and foreign policy. Participants debated the positive and negative effects of coordinated diplomatic structures – such as the European Foreign Service – across borders, histories, traditions and cultures.
