Public-Private Partnerships

Release Date: February 1, 2006

In response to a growing emphasis on public-private partnerships (PPPs) in a range of sectors—including health, education, and infrastructure provision—this report makes an evidenced-based assessment of the need for, role of, and performance of PPPs.

The development of PPPs needs to be addressed as an international phenomenon. Recently the IMF went as far as to describe PPPs as “a wave that is sweeping the world” and while it is well understood that the impact of PPPs can differ between sectors (notably between health and transportation), it is less clear whether the experience is different between developed Western and developing countries.
