The B-2A Stealth bomber is the Air Force’s newest strategic bomber. Based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, it can carry two types of nuclear gravity bombs and is being modified to carry conventional munitions. At an average cost of $2.595 billion (including research, development, and acquisition costs, in 1996 dollars), the B-2A is the most expensive bomber ever built (the plane is worth more than five times its weight in gold). Ten aircraft are currently deployed (21 are to be built).
