Geoff Boeing is an associate professor at the University of Southern California’s Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis, the director of USC’s Urban Data Lab, and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He received his Ph.D. in city and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
Boeing’s research and teaching focus on geospatial data science, urban networks, and information landscapes. His work has been published in journals across scientific and policy disciplines, including The Lancet Global Health, Journal of the American Planning Association, Urban Studies, Geographical Analysis, Applied Network Science, and Urban Design International.
Boeing has presented his research at the Venice Biennale of Architecture and in several keynote addresses. His work has been shortlisted by the Information Is Beautiful Awards and the NetSci Visualization Awards, and covered by numerous media outlets including The Economist, The Guardian, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post. He developed and maintains the OSMnx street network modeling software and has served as a consultant for several planning, policymaking, and public health organizations.
