Initiative on International Volunteering and Service

The Brookings Initiative on International Volunteering and Service explored ways in which the culture of volunteerism can help enhance global understanding and security.

The initiative was launched in June 2006 and its work encouraged more Americans to volunteer internationally and to improve service quality, capacity and positive impacts in communities throughout the world. The initiative was led by David Caprara, a Brookings nonresident fellow.

International volunteering continues to be an area of research for the Global Economy and Development program.
