About the Brookings-Rockefeller Project on State and Metropolitan Innovation
The Brookings-Rockefeller Project on State and Metropolitan Innovation is working to present fiscally-responsible state policies and practical metropolitan-led solutions that leaders can use to move toward the next economy that is driven by exports, powered by low carbon, fueled by innovation, rich with opportunity and led by metropolitan areas. The Project, a five-year collaboration, will focus on the following outcomes:
Building and Replicating Metropolitan Practices: Metropolitan leaders successfully adopt, implement, and replicate innovative regional economic development practices to build on their assets in the next economy - changing the way they define their economic development strategies and prioritize resources.
Metropolitan Export Initiative
The Metropolitan Export Initiative (MEI) is a ground-up collaborative effort to help regional civic, business, and political leaders, with their states, create and implement customized Metropolitan Export Plans (MEPs).
Metropolitan Business Plans
The Metropolitan Business Plans (MBP) help metro and state leaders adapt the discipline of private-sector business planning to the task of revitalizing regional development.
Building State and Metropolitan Leadership and Collaboration: Networks of influential public, non-profit, and private sector leaders learn, articulate and apply a shared vision for state and metropolitan innovation to local, state, and national dialogues.
State Policy Papers
Capturing Project Lessons to Catalyze Change: Produce, catalogue, and disseminate resources that leaders can use to inform innovative policy and practice in more states and metropolitan areas.
Providing Innovative State Policy Options: States adopt, implement, and align innovation policies and programs to be in service of metropolitan resiliency, such as promoting exports, developing low carbon sectors, investing in innovation, and providing more equitable opportunities for low-income individuals.
