On Trump’s decision to end DACA

Demonstrators hold signs during a protest in front of the White House after the Trump administration today scrapped the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a program that protects from deportation almost 800,000 young men and women who were brought into the U.S. illegally as children, in Washington, U.S., September 5, 2017. Andre Perry, David M. Rubenstein fellow in Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, responds to President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. Perry explains that the decision that could lead to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of young people who have become acculturated to U.S. society, especially since it is timed so closely to Hurricane Harvey, “is not ethical or moral and really does not address the issue of a broken immigration program.”
