Vaishant Sharma

Nonresident Senior Fellow – Brookings Metro

Vaishant Sharma is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He previously served as director of economic policy at the White House National Economic Council. He led implementation of a $3 billion investment strategy in regional economic development and emerging industries. Vaishant also oversaw critical capital markets initiatives, domestic manufacturing efforts, and was a key contributor to President Joe Biden’s Executive Order on Helping Left-Behind Communities Make a Comeback. 
 
Vaishant’s professional experience spans the public, market, and nonprofit sectors. Before joining the National Economic Council, he was an investment associate at Omidyar Network, where he supported $12 million in strategic investments focused on responsible capital markets and technology development. Vaishant also served as manager of strategy and partnerships at Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation, where he contributed to program strategy and organizational development. He began his career at the Albright Stonebridge Group, completing market entry analysis in South Asia and business strategy projects. Vaishant has held fellowships at the Economic Security Project and Groundwork Collaborative, contributing to economic research and policy development. 
 
Vaishant was born and raised in Rhode Island, and guided by family experiences in rural India. Throughout his work, Vaishant has focused on investing in innovation and helping working families. He graduated from American University’s School of International Service.Â
