Christopher Sands

Visiting Fellow – Global Economy and Development

Christopher Sands is a visiting fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at the Brookings Institution, where he leads the USMCA initiative. His work focuses on North American trade, economic integration, and the political and institutional dynamics shaping the future of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Sands’ research examines trade policy implementation, dispute settlement, regulatory cooperation, and the interaction between domestic political constraints and international economic negotiations. His work brings together policy analysis and practitioner engagement with government, business, and academic stakeholders across North America.

In addition to his role at Brookings, Sands is director of the Center for U.S.-Canada Relations at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He is lead editor of the forthcoming Encyclopedia of U.S.-Canadian Relations (Sage CQ Press, 2027).
