Alex Brockwehl

Alex Brockwehl is a visiting researcher in the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings. He previously worked for 13 years in the federal government and nonprofit sector, with a focus on U.S. foreign policy toward Latin America and global migration. Most recently, he served as director for migration cooperation at the White House National Security Council during the Biden administration, coordinating a strategy across various federal government agencies and with 21 partner countries to respond to historic levels of migration throughout the Western Hemisphere. Before that, he was a senior advisor at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He also served as subcommittee staff director on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, advising members of Congress and authoring bipartisan legislation on U.S. policy toward Latin America and the Caribbean. Alex received a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Spanish from Union College. He is a term member with the Council on Foreign Relations.
