The Slowdown of Migration in America

Since the credit crisis and the Great Recession that followed, Americans are staying put. The U.S. migration rate has reached its lowest point since World War II, according to a new report from the Metropolitan Policy Program, “The Great American Migration Slowdown: Regional and Metropolitan Dimensions.” Demographer and Senior Fellow William H. Frey, the report’s author, explains that this slowdown in migration can be seen in regions and cities across the country.
