Violence at Work

Duncan Chappell, Vittorio Di Martino
Release Date: June 1, 1998

Increasingly, the public is becoming aware of the scale of the problem of violence at work and the different forms it takes–aggression, assault, sexual harassment, physical abuse, and homicide. The challenge of a violence-free working environment encompasses not only human rights but also labor, health and safety, and criminal justice issues. This book looks at existing legislation, guidelines, and practices and calls for a systematic approach to a problem that is now being taken up by more international agencies and that inflicts a heavy toll on so many workplaces.

Duncan Chappell is deputy president of the National Federal Administrative Appeals Tribunal and former director of the Australian Institute of Criminology. Vittorio Di Martino is with the Conditions of Work and Welfare Facilities Branch of the ILO.
