This medium-term analysis of Asia’s part in the world economy draws upon two recent studies of possible international developments—the OECD’s World in 2020, which was largely written and wholly coordinated by the Development Centre, and the Asian Development Bank’s Emerging Asia: Changes and Challenges—and the political agendas of the countries of the region and elsewhere. This book is a calmer look at Asian economies than has usually been produced in the midst of the current frenzy about financial crises among the Asian Tigers, and a somewhat more reassuring one (without being overly optimistic). The technical presentations are well done and reliable, based as they are on in-depth studies.
