How well are American students learning?

Tom Loveless
Release Date: November 1, 2004

The Brown Center Report on American Education enters its fifth year with the 2004 report. It continues to use the latest and best evidence available to evaluate student achievement in America’s schools. This year the Brown Center analyzes individual math items from the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), attempting to gauge the country’s computation skills. The last section of the report presents a follow up to the 2000 study of the federal Blue Ribbon Schools Program and determines if the newly modified award’s process has changed the kinds of schools receiving recognition.
