Setting the Agenda for the Copenhagen Climate Conference

December 1, 2009

Global leaders from nearly 200 nations have begun climate change talks at the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen. A major goal of the meetings is to develop an international framework for lowering the amount of greenhouse gas emissions to which both developing and industrialized nations can agree. Additionally, conferees must consider the future of global climate cooperation post-Kyoto Treaty, which expires in 2012. Warwick McKibbin notes that finding common ground will be difficult but says it must be done.
