THE BROOKINGS Panel on Economic Activity opened its seventh year
with a conference held in Washington, D .C., on April 8-9, 1976. Presented
at that time and included in this issue are four articles and four reports devoted
to problems of current importance and concern. The present issue
includes several new studies of topics that have regularly absorbed the
sanel-demographic aspects of unemployment, Phillips-curve relationphips,
money demand, and monetary policy. It also contains the completion
of a two-part study on inflation-adjusted measurement of profits, an evaluation
of countercyclical public-employment programs,and an exchange of
views on seasonal adjustment of unemployment.
