Recently we have developed a `social physics’ that allows us to analyze the ‘digital breadcrumbs’ that we all leave behind in order to explain and even predict recessions and crime, and also to guide development efforts. This research also suggests that we may generally misunderstand many of the privacy fears associated with the release of anonymized and aggregated data about human behavior.
