Amidst the crisis in Ukraine, low oil and gas prices, and frictions with Russia, these are turbulent times for European energy markets. Concerns about import dependence, hydraulic fracturing, and the environmental implications of Europe’s increased coal use have prompted an intense discussion within the European Union around energy security issues in advance of next month’s Paris Climate Conference.
On October 23, the Energy Security and Climate Initiative (ESCI) at Brookings hosted Eurogas President Gertjan Lankhorst for a conversation on European energy security and the role of natural gas in Europe. Following Lankhorst’s initial remarks, ESCI Acting Director and Fellow Tim Boersma moderated a discussion and audience Q&A.
