The status of state government pensions has attracted considerable media and scholarly attention, but less well understood are the nation’s 3,196 locally administered pension plans. Tracy Gordon, Heather Rose and Ilana Fischer seek to fill this gap by reviewing issues common to state and local plans and summarizing existing data and research on local pensions.
