Bruce Riedel explains mistakes the United States made in fighting al Qaeda, and argues that recent events in the Middle East provide an opportunity to right these wrongs by helping citizens build accountable governments, reducing debt burdens and trade barriers with emerging democracies, and helping opposition forces restore order.
