Managing a Changing World

March 15, 2011

The United States finds itself in an unlikely position, says Bruce Jones: it is no longer the “CEO” of the world. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the battle against terrorism, a crippling economic crisis along with the rise of several new and powerful economies have introduced challenges to America’s preeminent position in global affairs. Yet America remains a vital player on the global landscape, and, argues Jones, is necessary to maintaining the world order.

Jones, director of the Managing Global Order project at Brookings, is author of the paper, “Largest Minority Shareholder in Global Order LLC: The Changing Balance of Influence and U.S. Strategy,” which is part of a special collaboration between Brookings and ForeignPolicy.com.
