Great Recession Employment Recovery is Slow

The fourth MetroMonitor compares how the largest 100 metropolitan areas are faring in this recession with how they fared in the recent recessions of 2001, 1990, 1981. Fellow Howard Wial, an author of the report, explains how employment is recovering far slower from the Great Recession than from the prior downturns; the housing market is also lagging. Yet, he says, all 100 metros registered growth in output during the fourth quarter of 2009.
